The IBA has instituted a new grading system which will be applicable to all new
applicants with effect from the 1st September 2009. Any other member who wishes
to be graded according to the new criteria may do so voluntarily, subject to the
payment of the normal R300 re-grading fee. The grading is divided into two categories:
Specialist Business Adviser and Generalist Business Adviser – (also referred to
as a Business Mentor).
Applicants can be listed as a specialist or generalist, or both, provided they meet
the qualifying criteria of both. As this grading system was devised to accommodate
professionals who do not necessarily wish to give general business advice, but who
do provide business support services in a specialist field, such as Accountancy
services. Legal services, HR consultants, Marketing professionals and Strategy planning
specialist, we can only list members as specialising in one of the fields. Individuals
who want to be listed as specialists in one particular industry e.g. Agriculture,
Mining, Hospitality & Tourism, Transport, Construction and Manufacturing may also
do so. The following is how the grading will be applied:
