SAQA DESIGNATIONS
The recognition of IBASA by SAQA as a professional body in 2013 resulted in the creation of 3 professional grades as opposed to the previous four grades. The designations also changed. IBASA's board approved the migration of existing members to the new grades as Business Advisor (BA), Principal Business Advisor (PBA), Certified Business Advisor (CBA):

IBASA's board also approved the implementation of a new grading system with effect from 1 February, 2013. The grading system has been harmonised for both generalist and specialist grades. The final grade will be determined by the weighted score obtained in the following assessment areas.
1 Academic qualifications
2 Work experience as an employee, manager or owner
3 Business Advisor experience (number of sessions, years and size of business client supported)
4 Membership of Accredited Professional Bodies

Weighted points obtained are dependent on number of years as an employee, manager and business owner Points are calculated per annum and Employee or Manager is eligible to claim business ownership points concurrently. Candidates with extensive practical experience are accommodated through the pro-rata point system Weighted points allocation is as follows:
- BA (0-115 points) equivalent to a maximum of 13 years as an employee, 10 years as a manager and 5 years as a business owner.
- PBA (115 – 230 points) equivalent to a maximum of 26 years as an employee, 20 years as a manager and 10 years as a business owner)
- CBA (231 points and above) equivalent to more than 26 years as an employee, 20 years as a manager and more than 10 years as a business owner.
Note – Weighted points obtained in this category will contribute 30% to final grade.

- BA (0-30 points) equivalent to a maximum of 75 MC Sessions, 37.5 SM sessions and 30 ME sessions.
- PBA (31 – 60 points) equivalent to a maximum of 150 MC Sessions, 75 SM sessions and 60 ME sessions.
- PBA (61 points and above) equivalent to a minimum of 151 MC Sessions, 76 SM sessions and 61 ME sessions.
Note – Weighted points obtained in this category will contribute 40% to final grade.

Determination of Final Grades
The scores obtained by an applicant are weighted and summed up to determine the final grade. The following scoring ranges determine the final grade awarded to an applicant for both generalist and specialist.
